Beauty Case | Version II
Video Object with Sound | Beauts Case, LCD Monitor, Video with Sound | 2015
The Rütli meadow is an iconic site woven into the myths of Switzerland’s founding story. In the summer of 2015, an art exhibition took place on the Rütli, initiated by the Swiss Charitable Society SGG and organized by NCBI Switzerland as part of the iCH project. The exhibition, housed in the building next to the Rütli meadow, was open daily from June to September. Visitors to the Rütli during this period were invited to reflect on what defines Swiss identity.
A red beauty case is displayed on a pedestal. Inside, a small video monitor is embedded. On the screen, a red spot appears in the middle of a snowy landscape. A figure dressed in white struggles to free herself from the red cloth, accompanied by piano music. The red cloth is a Swiss flag. The French word for flag (drapeau) contains within it the word for skin (peau).
