Der Kunst-Turner
Performativ intervention with Gymnast & Interactive Installation with QR Codes, Postcards, Video Projection | 2013–2016
Reactivate! Art in Public Space was an exhibition project in the city of Zug, featuring innovative art and mediation projects that engaged with existing public artworks in Zug or reinterpreted them. The project took place from 22 August to 28 September 2013 in various locations across the city.
With her project Der Kunst-Turner (The Art Gymnast), Ruth Baettig invited the public to use their imagination to extend and reinterpret selected sculptures in public space. For this, she enlisted a professional gymnast, Andreas Gribi, who moved through the city of Zug, performing routines on a parcours of twenty public artworks.
From the visual material, Baettig created a series of postcards that were available at kiosks in Zug. In addition, a video work documenting the gymnast’s performances was projected at the Ankenwaage. QR codes placed on the sculptures enabled viewers to access video sequences directly on their smartphones during the exhibition, offering a playful, interactive engagement with the artworks.
