Multi-part installation with neon writing, video projection, sound, bed sheets, and objects | 2015

Based on Goethe’s Journey to Italy, a multi-part installation of neon writing, video projection, sound, bed sheets, and objects has been created.

Neon: The phrase Mi sono perso in the first room is juxtaposed with its literal neon translation, I have lost myself. The gallery space serves as the starting point of a long-term project. These neon writings are intended for future use in performances and interventions in outdoor spaces.

Video projection: A sequence from Michelangelo Antonioni’s film Il Deserto rosso is projected into a dark room, dissolving into nothingness. Giuliana (Monica Vitti) becomes lost and flees by car. Just before reaching the abyss, she manages to stop.
With slow painting gestures, the moving image is made visible. The work explores themes of remembering and forgetting, losing oneself, and finding oneself. Further fragments and versions will emerge over time, drawn from this and other films.

Installation: The projector is placed on a narrow, long white table, the length of which is determined by the ratio between the projection surface and the distance to the wall. The installation is presented without sound.

Sound installation: A pile of snow-white sheets is stacked outside the gallery space, in the stockroom. These are the sheets the artist slept on during her childhood. Beneath the pile, a sound source is buried. Looping, a haunting female voice from Il Deserto rosso can be heard, as it appears at the beginning and end of the film.

Objects: Art objects created by Denis ColletPark (gallery owner and artist) naturally integrate into the installation and find their place within it.
