ORT(S)WECHSEL I

As a connection between the exhibitions in Sursee, Zofingen, Schüpfheim, and Willisau, the multi-part work Wer nie sein Brot mit Tränen ass… (Who never ate his bread with tears…) was created. The project began with a collection of letters written by migrants to their loved ones back home. These letters speak of homesickness, longing, loneliness in a foreign land, but also of curiosity and unshakable optimism.
Actors Franca Basoli and Patrick Slanzi—who also read passages from these letters in the video work—perform Ort(s)wechsel (Change of Place(s)) (concept: Ruth Baettig) in collaboration with artist Denis ColletPark (Paris).
Franca Basoli and Patrick Slanzi read excerpts from the letters while standing, sitting, and moving around small, table- and chair-like art objects that Denis ColletPark constructs from found pallet wood. Their movements intertwine with the text, circling around themes of departure and arrival, of stories and identities in which the audience may recognize themselves.
